“Our Favorite Eritrean Weekend”
It’s More Than Just a Project.
As a graphic designer and Illustrator, illustrating this children’s book was a meaningful project to take on. One of my values as a designer is representation. My goal was to visually celebrate Eritrean culture through warmth, color, and everyday moments that feel familiar to so many of us growing up in the diaspora.
From the traditional clothing to the small details-every element was intentionally illustrated to reflect culture, community and family life. I wanted it to feel inviting and relatable, especially for young readers seeing their culture on the page.
Illustrating this book is more than just a design project, it was about storytelling, cultural preservation , and representation through illustration. I’m grateful to collaborate with the author of “Our Favorite Eritrean Weekend” to bring not only her vision to life, but a whole communities.
