Project Overview
Client / Organization: Eritreans in Tech
Project: EriSummit 2025 Multi‑Day Event Poster
Role: Graphic Designer
Deliverables: Primary event poster (digital + print), visual system adaptable for social and on‑site use
EriSummit 2025 is a multi‑day cultural and professional summit bringing together members of the Eritrean diaspora for programming that spans technology, community, culture, and social connection. The challenge was to clearly communicate a dense schedule of events across multiple days and locations while creating a unified, welcoming visual identity that resonated with a diverse audience.
The Challenge
The summit schedule included:
Multiple events over five days
Different venues and time ranges
A broad audience spanning professionals, creatives, students, and community members
The primary challenge was information overload. The design needed to help viewers quickly understand:
What the event is
When each activity occurs
Where each activity takes place
At the same time, the poster needed to feel culturally affirming, celebratory, and credible for a national‑scale audience.
Audience & Equity Considerations
Primary Audience
Eritrean diaspora members across age groups
First‑time attendees unfamiliar with EriSummit
Community members with varying levels of English fluency
Equity & Accessibility Goals
Clear hierarchy to support quick scanning
High‑contrast typography for legibility
Plain language and consistent formatting
Inclusive imagery that emphasizes place and community rather than individuals
Design decisions were made to ensure the information could be understood regardless of prior familiarity with the event.
Strategy
The creative strategy focused on clarity, structure, and trust.
Key strategic decisions included:
Treating the poster as an information system, not just a promotional graphic
Grouping events by day to reduce cognitive load
Using typographic hierarchy to separate primary information (event names, dates) from secondary details (times, locations)
Grounding the design in a recognizable Washington, D.C. landmark to immediately establish geographic context
The goal was to create a poster that could function effectively in both digital environments and physical spaces.
Creative Solution
Visual System
A translucent container overlays the background image, allowing the poster to remain visually engaging while preserving readability
Rounded panels soften the layout and make dense information feel approachable
Bold, sans‑serif typography ensures legibility at multiple viewing distances
Color & Branding
Color accents were inspired by Eritrean identity and used intentionally to guide attention rather than decorate
Neutral tones support accessibility and prevent visual fatigue
Information Hierarchy
Event title and year are clearly established at the top
Dates are grouped by day for intuitive navigation
Event names are emphasized using scale and weight
Locations are consistently placed to reduce confusion
Accessibility Considerations
Accessibility was integrated throughout the design process:
High contrast between text and background
Consistent spacing and alignment for easier scanning
Avoidance of decorative fonts that reduce readability
Clear separation between sections to support users with cognitive or visual processing needs
These choices ensure the poster performs well in both print and digital formats.
Collaboration
This project involved collaboration with:
Event organizers to confirm accurate scheduling and locations
Stakeholders to align visual tone with the mission of Eritreans in Tech
Feedback loops focused on clarity, cultural relevance, and accuracy rather than purely aesthetic preferences.
Outcome & Impact
The final poster served as:
The primary promotional asset for EriSummit 2025
A clear, centralized reference for attendees
A visual anchor for the event across platforms
The design successfully communicated complex information in a way that felt organized, inclusive, and trustworthy, supporting attendance and engagement across the summit’s full schedule.
