Bringing Culture to the World Stage

The FIFA WORLD CUP Juneteenth Poster

How do I tell my four-year old self that one day he would enter the FIFA WORLD CUP 26 Juneteenth Match Design Contest for the city of Seattle-and win? 🏆

Seattle FIFA WORLD CUP 26 Juneteenth Match Design

My design is 1 of 2 designs selected to represent the FIFA World Cup 26 Juneteenth Match held in Seattle! My design will also be produced as an official lapel pin associated with the SeattleFWC SEA&WIN app 🏆⚽️

Story Time!

As I reflect on this once in a lifetime accomplishment, I remember what truly got me to this moment, and that’s my love for the game.

Soccer has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. From playing in youth club teams. To playing 2 years at Green River College. Then playing intramural’s at WSU-Go Cougs. To wake up at 6am, rain or shine on a Saturday to play pickup games, to later coming home to watch Premier League matches on TV. On Wednesday afternoons when I was ment to go to class. I would “sometimes”… 👀 skip to watch the Champions League matches at the CUB. My first job out of highschool was ticket taker at Century Link Field now (Lumen Field). (Shout out NW Gates). Weather I was playing on the pitch or watching on tv, soccer was always more than just a game to me. It’s about community and culture. I found any possible way to stay close to the game, and now I found another.

Today, I am grateful to combine my love for the game and my passion for design to create something for the World to share. Having the opportunity to create something that will be seen on a global stage-and that represents Seattle on Juneteenth!!! It’s truly special.

As a first generation Eritrean American designer, I always ask myself this question before I start any project like this. How can I represent my identity and my communities through my work? This project allowed me to do exactly that! If you can dream it, you can achieve it! ⚽️🏆✌🏾🇪🇷
